| General Information. eOfficeMgr uses a printer utility called Screwdrivers (also known as Simplify Printing), developed by Tricerat to enable you to print to your local printers from our remote servers. Screwdrivers can print to virtually any printer and allows you to utilize all your printers' capabilities.
We use Screwdrivers because Microsoft provides remote printing capabilities for only a very limited set of printers and configurations.
Screwdrivers needs to be installed on your local computer. We will assist you in downloading, installing and configuring Screwdrivers as part of your initial set up for hosting services. There is no additional charge for Screwdrivers or the initial set up. If you get a new printer, you need to reconfigure Screwdrivers on your local computer. | Nothing prints or everything prints incorrectly.
| Nothing prints or everything prints incorrectly. The first thing to check is whether your printer is operating correctly locally. Even if you know it is, the information on the test page will assist your support person in resolving the issue. Log off the remote server and print a test page. To print a test page, click Start | Printers and Faxes. Your screen should look something like the one below. If your operating system is not Windows XP, you may have slightly different menus or screens.
Double-click the icon of the printer you want a test page for to get the following screen.
This box should be empty as in the example above. If there are one or more documents listed, try to delete them by following the procedure at "How to delete documents from the print queue". Once the print queue is empty, click the menu items Printer | Properties to display the screen below.

Click the Print Test Page button. If the test page prints correctly, set it aside for later use. If it doesn't print correctly, turn off the power to your printer and completely shut down your computer. Make sure both ends of all cables connected to your printer are snugly seated. Wait a couple minutes, then turn on your printer. After your printer has completed its start up routine, restart your computer and try again to print a test page. If the test page still does not print, contact the person who supports the computers in your office. Once you have a good printer test page but you still cannot print correctly from the remote server, continue with the next procedure below.

| Check Remote Desktop printer settings. Open Remote Desktop Connection but don't click on the Connect button. Instead, click on the Options >> button. Click on the Local Resources tab to get the following screen. This screen depicts version 6.x. Your version may look slightly different.

Near the bottom, make sure the Printers check box is selected. Click the Options << button again and then click Connect. If you still cannot print from the remote server, continue with the next procedure.

| Update Screwdrivers. Go to the Information page of this web site under Hosting Support and click on the installation instructions under Screwdrivers. Follow the instructions exactly or you may not get a good install. If you already have any version of Screwdrivers or Simplify Printing installed, follow this procedure again, including downloading, to make sure you have a good copy of the most recent release and a good install. If you're still not printing correctly, fax the printer test page you created above to your remote server support person and call them to tell them what your issue is and the steps you've taken to try to correct it.

| Specific reports or forms print incorrectly. This generally occurs when non-standard forms, such as customized checks in CYMA, do not comply with the application's requirements. Contact your primary support person. Also, customized user preferences or missing Printer set up instructions for a particular form may prevent correct printing in QuickBooks. Contact your primary support person.
| Update printer drivers.
| Update printer drivers. Sometimes printer drivers that have worked perfectly for a long time may become obsolete due to changes in other components you depend on. Operating system updates, application updates, other hardware changes, etc. may affect your ability to print. It's impossible to avoid these changes due to the rapidly changing environment of viruses, spy-ware, pop-up ads, etc. and the security systems you use to protect yourself. It's a good idea to keep your printer drivers up to date. The manufacturer of your printer will post any updated drivers on their web site. You can usually find these on their Support web page. Your printer manual should tell you how to access their web site. If there are different versions of drivers available, choose one that supports PCL 6 or PostScript 3 or later. Your computer support person can help you acquire and install a new printer driver.
